B16 manifold. Work in progress

started working on this manifold. this manifold will be designed for a high reving engine, 9000rpm at least. the plenum will be increased by 314cc, runners 21mm shorter and wider runners, +2mm.
OEM manifols usually are designed with smaller plenum, longer and narrower runners seeking for a good throttle response, good idle keeping the air moving forward as the intake valves open an shut.
When an intake valve opens, there is a short lag before the cylinder starts to pull air through the runner into the combustion chamber. A longer runner helps maintain the inertia of the air column so it will fill the cylinder faster.
Shorter runners, on the other hand, usually flow better at higher engine rpm. Reducing the length of the runners may allow the engine to make more power at the top end, but the trade-off may be a loss of power and torque at lower speeds.
we'll see if my math and theory works on this manifold. there is an inconvenient on my design, due to i am using oem manifold, , the oem runners are curved, so cutting and decreasing the length of the runners, don't match, so i have to reduce the diammeter of the runner in the point i am going to wel both pieces.

SK2 intake vs OEM Part 2

Measured and flowed both intakes tonight. theory sucks! sk2 flowed much better with shorter runners, so my less cross sectional area less cfm theory doesn't work.
OEM SKUNK2
Plenum volume 1,15L 1,47L
Runner length 233mm 213mm
Runner width(head face) 51,6mm 51,6mm
Runner width(60mm deep) 44,65mm 45,73mm
Throttlebody diammeter 62mm 72mm
Flow in CFM at 28" 262* 277*

* 4 runner average
Also flowed the sk2 70mm throttlebody vs oem throttlebody. the sk2 flowed about 2-5CFM more.

Next step is to modify the oem intake, bigger plenum.... cut cut cut cut... weld weld...

B16 intake manifold. OEM vs Skunk2

I friend of mine asked me to study this intake manifolds and if i can reproduce or(and)  improve the intake manifold designed by skunk2.
In a  preliminary look at both intake manifolds, skunk2 manifold runners are a little bit shorter, about 10mm-15mm and wider . Also the plenum has more volume, need to do some maths. Shorter runners means less cross sectional area, so flow numbers will be greater in the stock manifold. that's theory.
here is a horsepower chart of both.

Shorter runners improve the high rpm area, maybe their lenght is close to the ideal runner lenght for a B16 engine, need to calculate this to see if i can improve it.
i'll flow both intakes tomorrow,

new camera

bought a new camera. fujifilm finepix x10. as you can see in my previous post, the macro pictures of the cylinder head  are amazing. love the retro style of the camera.

F20 and D16Y8

finished a pair of   heads, F20 and D16.
also sold a set of rims and an exhaust  manifold from my ''old'' race car.
